ACS Nurse Office Guidelines

  • A fever is a temperature at or above 100 degrees.
  • Keep your child home from school until 24 hours have passed without a fever. A fever reduced by a dose of Tylenol or Ibuprofen is NOT fever-free.
  • Do not return to school until 24 hours after vomiting has stopped.
  • If your child becomes ill while at school, you will be called to take them home early. A student will be sent home early from school for vomiting, a temperature of 100 degrees or above, new onset conjunctivitis, or an injury that is assessed to require further evaluation.
  • Please pick up your sick or injured child within 30 minutes if they are sent home from the nurse office.
  • For all notifications to the school nurse (ie. medications, illness, injury follow-up, etc.) please send an email to nurse@acsphx.org  and copy the homeroom teacher. This will provide clear written communication to all parties involved with your child.
  • Take ibuprofen at 8:00 am before school if your student needs pain medication. This should prevent them from needing additional dosages during the school day.
  • If your student suffers seasonal allergies, please give their allergy medication at home.

Please fill out the Medication Permission Form for any medicine that your child will need to take at school on a regular basis. This includes ADHD medication, antibiotics, topical drugs, or any temporary pain medication that you did not give permission for on your enrollment packet. The medicine must be in its original container labeled with the student’s name and dosage.

For all EpiPens, the Food Allergy Action Plan must be filled out and signed by your physician. Middle School students will keep EpiPens in their backpacks. K-5th grade students will store them with their teacher. An extra EpiPen for storage in the nurse office is suggested.

The Asthma Action Plan must accompany all inhalers brought to campus. Your physician must fill out this form. Middle School students will keep inhalers in their backpacks. K-5th grade inhalers will be kept in the nurse office.

Please contact the school nurse for all questions regarding student health and wellness at nurse@acsphx.org or call (480)361-8324.
