School Finance Council

Finance Council Purpose

The finance council's purpose is to ensure the school's financial stability and to help the school fulfill its mission. The council provides advice and assistance to the pastor and principal.

Finance Council Responsibilities

  • Budgeting: Create and review budgets, including revenue and expenditure forecasts
  • Financial reporting: Prepare financial reports and ensure responsible stewardship
  • Financial analysis: Analyze financial data and make recommendations
  • Long-term planning: Develop long-range financial goals and strategies
  • Asset management: Safeguard the school's assets and oversee investments
  • Business affairs: Oversee business affairs such as insurance and capital improvements

The budget process begins in early January at the school advisory council. The advisory council discusses tuition, and salary increases based on current economy and diocesan guidelines. The advisory council votes on recommended increases and presents the recommendations to the finance council. The finance council discusses and votes on the recommendations, and the pastor makes the final decisions. The remaining line items in the budget are developed cooperatively by the principal and finance director who use the current year-to-date actuals as a guide. Additionally, the diocese provides employee benefit costs, which are taken into consideration before the final approval of the budget. The draft budget is reviewed by the finance council who ultimately recommend the final budget to the Pastor for approval.
