Catholic Identity Committee
Our School's Catholic Identity
Our parent-based group supports Annunciation's Catholic identity in the classroom and the community. Together with our teaching faculty, we serve by organizing a variety of faith-based community prayers, learning activities, and charitable service projects to enhance our children's Catholic experience.
We assist in the care and keeping of classroom faith materials and work cooperatively with school administrators and the parent advisory board in the development of our school's effective and ever-evolving Catholic identity program.
Acting in faith and love demonstrates the authenticity of our beliefs to our children, who in turn learn to love their faith by example.
Here are some of the ways we strengthen our student’s faith at Annunciation:
· Daily prayer and religious instruction in class by certified catechist teachers.
· Weekly student Mass with the church community including holy days of obligation.
· Monthly community prayer and monthly all-school Rosary.
· Regular student Reconciliation service for all students who have received the sacrament.
· Regular classroom visits by church pastors, deacons, and Catholic religious.
Become a Faith Angel for your child’s classroom. Each grade will have one designated Faith Angel to participate on the Catholic Identity Committee and actively support our mission to keep our Catholic faith present within the classroom and on campus. The Faith Angels strive to support the mission of ACS through their involvement on the committee.
Meet your Catholic Identity Chair
Hi, my name is Sarah Cupo, and I am excited to start my fourth year as the Chair of Annunciation’s Catholic Identity Committee, aka CIC. My husband Jason and I have 4 amazing children (Grades 7, 5, 2, and 1) who all attend ACS!
I am a "Cradle Catholic" – having been brought up in the faith from birth. Although I attended mass regularly growing up and was happily involved in Life Teen as a teenager at Our Lady of Joy, it was not until our kids began their Catholic education that I was inspired to discover and seek deeper involvement in my Catholic faith. It is a true blessing when my children come home from school and tell us about the Catholic teachings and traditions they are learning at ACS – some of which I had never celebrated before – including All Saints’ Day and May Crowning to name just a couple.
A few years ago, I started attending CIC meetings when my oldest child started Kindergarten. At first, I was a little intimidated and felt like I was maybe not "Catholic Enough"; a feeling that was quickly soothed as I was warmly welcomed and invited to help at various events. Our purpose as CIC is to lead all students closer to Christ and the Eucharist in the beautiful traditions of the Catholic Church. And, being involved in CIC for six years – and having been blessed to serve as Chair for the last 3 years, I can say that my own faith has grown in ways I never imagined.
I encourage anyone who has a passion for their faith as a Catholic, big or small, to get involved in the CIC. Come and help us support the school and faculty to bring the rich teachings of the Catholic Faith to the hearts of all students at ACS. I look forward to meeting you!
